Our transatlantic cruise was leaving from Ft. Lauderdale so we wanted to find a place nearby but not too expensive…this is going to be a long trip, we need to save where we can!
We ended up at a little place in Hollywood. Nothing fancy but safe and close to a few things we could walk to.
We were really looking forward to a Miami style Cubano and tried searching for a place nearby. There were several within walking distance so we headed out, not really worried about finding a place. Well, that was a mistake. Of the 5 we saw, not one was what we were looking for, or even still in business. The opens ones were not inviting to saw the least. So, feeling defeated we started heading to Publix to get a deli sandwich there. Still frantically searching while walking, I realized there was one up a block along the way. We get there just as they were closing but as we turned away the owner came out and said that they would open for a beautiful family like ours. So, inside we went and communicated the best we could with my very basic Spanish and his much better, but not perfect English. He took our order and talked about his life in Cuba, being a sports caster, Messi, and how sweet our kids are. Our food was done and we took it to go. Back at the room we devoured them and talked about his life and what he has accomplished in the US knowing little English. Incredible.

The place is El Cafecito. Go there and chat. It’s worth your time and satisfies the belly.
