Travel / Boise to Tokyo · 2026
We drove to Boise to drop Morgen off with family before a long stretch of travel. The kids flew. We waited for them, then left around 5 a.m. with the dog in the back and the Model Y navigation pointed at Superchargers.

Morgen loved the stops. Every single one. That part was easy.
What was not easy was trying to keep a charging streak. We burned too much time hunting for the “right” parking space. At one point the route put us back on the freeway just so we could take the next exit and turn around. Next time we will take the first stall that works and move on.
Rough numbers from our side of the trip: about $158 in Supercharging, plus a stay at the Best Western Lexington. Breakfast there was genuinely good, and the overnight charge for the car was only about $4. When we did this in the Airstream 24x diesel ran about $600 for the trip and about $400 in the Ford.
Food stayed simple. We cleaned out the fridge before we left, packed drinks and snacks, and topped up at the nearest Walmart or gas station when we needed to.
If I told a friend one thing about this drive, it would be this: the dog loved all the stops, and we should have stopped fighting the charger map sooner.
